About Meira

Meira Ellias (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who believes that healing begins with connection and trust. Her warm, grounded presence helps clients feel safe to explore their emotions, experiences, and identities without judgment. Meira values the power of the therapeutic relationship and works collaboratively with clients to understand the patterns that shape their lives and move toward meaningful growth.

Approach to Therapy

Meira takes a relational and trauma-informed approach to therapy, blending talk-based and body-based modalities to support holistic healing. She partners closely with clients to uncover insights, build resilience, and foster self-understanding. Meira creates space for clients to reclaim their sense of safety, authenticity, and empowerment—one conversation at a time.

Education and Training

Meira earned her Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University in 2010 and her Bachelor’s in Women’s and Gender Studies from Rutgers University. She has additional training in Brainspotting and completed a 300-hour certification in Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY), an evidence-based treatment for complex trauma, through the JRI Institute in Boston. Professional Experience

Meira began her career in New York City, where she worker in the Bronx and then in Greenwich Village working with children who were sexual abuse survivors and their non offending caregivers. When she left New York she decided to return to a familiar role in hospice, where she had been a volunteer during her college years, this time as a clinical social worker in pediatric and geriatric hospice care in Cherry Hill, NJ, supporting adults, children, and their families through grief and end-of-life transitions.

When she settled in the DC area she began working in community mental health before serving as the supervising social worker at the only inpatient psychiatric hospital in the Washington, D.C. area focused on complex trauma and dissociative disorders. She has been a clinical supervisor since 2014 and in private practice since 2018. 

Meira has spoken on panels and written articles around the risks of silence when it comes to sexual abuse communal prevention and safety, and response. She has worked with communities around breaking stigma and encouraging appropriate policy development to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
