Christina Tosto, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia, DC, and Maryland

About Christina

Christina Tosto (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who believes therapy is most effective when it feels collaborative, curious, and real. She works to create a space where clients can bring their whole selves—messy parts and all—and feel seen, accepted, and understood.

Christina’s approach begins with meeting clients exactly where they are. She helps people recognize the patterns that shape their relationships and sense of self, and together, they explore new ways to find connection, confidence, and healing.

Approach to Therapy

Grounded in psychodynamic and attachment-based psychotherapy, Christina’s work focuses on helping clients understand how their early experiences continue to influence their present-day lives. She believes that awareness, compassion, and insight are key to change—and that healing unfolds through relationships.

Her practice is trauma-informed and body-aware, emphasizing the connection between mind and body in the healing process, including incorporation of EFT tapping and Brainspotting for trauma treatment. Her approach is grounded in a Health at Every Size and body-positive framework, honoring the many ways people experience health, healing, and self-acceptance. Christina provides a warm, affirming space for LGBTQIA+ clients and those exploring sexuality, intimacy, or relationship structures. She is sex-positive, kink-friendly, and open to all forms of identity and expression, approaching each client’s story with genuine curiosity and respect.

Education and Training

Christina earned her Master of Social Work from The Catholic University of America’s National Catholic School of Social Service and her Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University’s School of Nursing & Health Studies. Her background in both mental health and healthcare has shaped her belief in the importance of whole-person wellness. She completed advanced training in developmental and childhood trauma, Complex PTSD, and dissociative disorders, as well as training in Brainspotting and EFT Tapping for Trauma.

Professional Experience

Christina began her career in community mental health in Washington, DC, providing therapeutic services to clients from diverse, often underserved communities. This early work shaped her understanding of trauma in its many forms—interpersonal, developmental, and systemic—and laid the foundation for her lifelong commitment to trauma-informed practice.

She went on to receive advanced clinical training at The Center for Post Traumatic Disorders, where she treated survivors of childhood and developmental trauma, Complex PTSD, and dissociative disorders. During her time at The Center, Christina worked across inpatient and partial hospitalization levels of care and trained with some of the leading voices in trauma treatment. In 2017, she transitioned into full-time private practice, bringing this depth of clinical experience into long-term outpatient work.

Over the subsequent years, Christina supported clients through narrative work and the integration of multiple healing modalities. She also began supervising and training clinicians who shared her passion for walking alongside clients navigating complex trauma. This supervisory work deepened her investment in cultivating the next generation of trauma-informed therapists.

In addition to her trauma specialty, Christina developed a strong secondary focus on sex and sexuality. Through advanced training and close collaboration with clients, she built a niche practice serving individuals and relationships engaged in ethical non-monogamy, kink, and alternative relationship structures. She has become an advocate for reducing stigma within therapeutic spaces and has spoken and taught on sex-positive, inclusive clinical care for these communities.

Christina continues to see clients, train emerging professionals, and teach, speak, and consult with clinicians around the country on trauma, sexual wellness, and inclusive clinical practice for non-monogamous and kink-involved clients.
