Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia
About Abigail
Abigail (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a direct but warm approach to trauma work. She focuses on helping clients build stability in the present so they can safely process the past, and she deeply values the relationship-building at the heart of therapy, believing that a strong connection is what allows clients to anchor themselves in the work.
Approach to Therapy
Abigail uses integrated psychodynamic therapy within a stage-oriented model of trauma treatment, prioritizing stabilization and symptom management before moving into deeper processing. She helps clients identify the links between past and present, creating space to explore those patterns and build lasting change. Abigail brings specialized expertise in dissociative disorders, including training in assessment tools such as the Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation (MID) and the Structured Clinical Interview for Dissociative Disorders (SCID-D), and works extensively with clients navigating Complex PTSD and dissociation.
She is also trained in clinical hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) and is currently working toward certification.
Education and Training
Abigail earned her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Radford University and her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Tech.
Professional Experience
Since 2016, Abigail has worked across a range of clinical settings, including residential, community mental health, and inpatient care. She most recently spent several years as a therapist on an inpatient unit specializing in complex trauma and dissociative disorders before transitioning to outpatient work, giving her deep familiarity with a full spectrum of client acuity. Abigail has presented at multiple conferences on trauma-related dissociation and regularly consults with other outpatient therapists on dissociative presentations.
